Manhattans great jones street has been celebrated by the likes of don delillo (who wrote a book about it) and jean-michael basquiat (who used to paint there) - now there's another "arty" reason to visit that short stretch of hallowed downtown pavement: Takamichi Hair.
Entry to the salon, which occupies the top floor of an old soho factory building, involves a trip up a freight elevator. But once you step into the stunningly elegant minimalist interior (courtesy of Belgian designer sandra van rollegham), you feel as if you have discovered a hidden sanctuary away from the city's hectic, horn honking hustle.
Kimberly and Cristin the curly haired specialists are heavy on philosophy: they talk about hair- cutting as an "art", employ precision to create individually-tailored styles for every clients face.
