Make sure you use a stylist that you go to on a regular basis who is familiar with your hair. This is extremely important! If for example your hair is very thick and curly and you want it straightened for prom day, you want to ensure your stylist has straightened your hair type and texture before.

It's amazing how many stylists try to straighten naturally curly hair with the wrong curling iron or hair products and you come out looking like a mushroom head or frizz rather than having hair with a sleek shiney finish.

Book your appointment with your stylist 2 months prior to your prom. You know that prom is a very busy time and you want to ensure you have an appointment date and time booked with your stylist.

Call 3 days prior to your hair appointment to confirm you are booked for the specified date and time. Since this is a very hectic time you want to ensure you weren't bumped inadvertently.

Bring a picture of your dress to show your stylist so that they can match your dress with your hairstyle. Low backs or high necks on dresses can be accented with just the right style

Search for pictures of a celebrity that has a similar face shape as you. What style do you best like on them? The best style that compliments their face shape will also probably compliment you too.

If you plan on coloring your hair for the prom, do this at least 2.5 weeks prior to the prom. You don't want any unexpected surprises. If you don't like your color, you can always have it enhanced/fixed prior to your special prom day.

Decide on whether you'll have long, short, straight or curly hair. If you opt for extensions make sure you are working with a stylist that is familiar with your hair. Your stylist should already be very familiar with your hair type and texture and should be able to match the extensions properly to your hair type and texture. The last thing you want is a bad extension job the day of your prom.

Make sure you have the right accessories but specifically prom hair accessories to match your hairstyle and dress. Look at magazine pictures. Wedding magazines are a great resource. Check online for celebrity pictures from the Oscars or music awards. Find the celeb style that you can incorporate into your look.
