I too have been a slave to my hair. In the past year, I stopped chemically relaxing it. I'm soooo glad that I did. I know many people may think it's crazy how much our hair plays a role in what we do, but if you've been there it's easy to understand.

I regret not doing some things. I always had a desire to go to Asia, but was worried who would do my hair. Now I just may no longer have to wait. My hair no longer controls my life. You know, I really never thought about it that much before, but it is really sad what things some women may do all in the name of vanity... me included. So glad I'm free from that now.

For anyone who is still in this state of "bondage" I agree with Jolene, live your life and don't let your hair dictate what you do. Life is too short. Enjoy life while you can!

It's ok to have a relaxer or any other process, just take care of your hair. If you want to swim, deep condition more often and wear a swim cap. If you live in a humid climate, wear a wash and go. There are alternatives. Regardless of whether you're natural or not, just take the necessary steps to care for your hair based upon the activities that you're doing. It's like anything else...
