Just tired of chemicals

It took me 5 years to finally break free from chemicals that straighten hair. I had been in a relaxer since I was thirteen. Before that my hair was straighten by a hot comb on the stove. I know you gals remember that LOL. I just got to a point in my life where as I wanted to take control of maintaining my hair.
As I said I started thinking about it seriously 7 years ago. I went natural in 2009, and have no reqrets. I ultimately went for the big chop because it was far more challangeing to maintain with partially relaxed hair.
I have a professional career and when I came into work that Monday after the big chop. No one said anything initially. Then one of the Doctors said I wish I could be that brave.
One of the things I remember doing and saying to others and myself was, I love the feel of having natural hair. I felt it also increased my confidence because I was breaking free from a stigma that have plagued women of color for too long. This is the hair I was born with and there is no shame for me. I am thankful to God for creating me just the way I am. To me that is MAJOR liberty!
Celebrate your life!
