Blended Beauty Hair Care Products!
Interview with Blended Beauty founder Stacey who developed a complete line of curly hair products.
1. Tell me a bit about your products?
Blended Beauty products are as natural as possible without having to be refrigerated. Each product is at least 98% naturally derived. And phosphate free. I developed the products at first to suit the hair types that were mostly ignored in the market.
That being the types that are in-between straight or untextured hair, and afro hair. Hair types that interracial people were likely to have. Now there are Blended Beauty products for all types through the range of wavy/dry to afro hair. They focus on moisturizing, increasing the heath and beauty of the hair. While still providing styling effects, without drying out the hair, like many alcohol based products do.
2. What made you decide to produce your own line of products?
At first, I simply wanted to make hair products for the type of hair that I have, because there was nothing available for me that suited all my needs. And after networking I realized there were so many people in my situation and even those with different hair types. I just wanted to create products that were very much needed by many, many people. Even the usual products for afro hair do not do the job. They are grease based and afro hair needs moisture, not grease.
3. Who are Blended Beauty products geared towards? What type of hair?
There’s a whole range which I have summed up in the hair chart on our website. The lightest type would be the type of hair that is silky, but has some wave to it, and tends to frizz or puff. Then all the types going right through to afro hair. And any exceptions like really dry, coarse straight hair, or silky tight curly hair.
4. What is your most popular product?
Currently the most popular product is the Curly Frizz Pudding. All the hair types can use it, either alone or on top of another moisturizer. It is the strongest hold product we have, and most like a gel. It’s a light gel lotion. The kid’s version is called Jelly Cream.
5. Why is it so popular?
I think the Blended Beauty Curly Frizz Pudding is so popular because anyone can use it, and because it gives the most definition of all the products. Plus it doesn’t weigh down the hair, so you can use any other product with it and not have extra build up.
6. Since you have so many products can you tell us which ones are best used for which curly hair types based on CurlyHairSalon.com’s “Hair Types”
categorization? See Type1/Type2/Type3/Type4?
Type 1 - Could use any of the rinse out products. Like the Soy Cream Shampoo and conditioners.
Type 2 - Would use the lightest products like the Light Styling Lotion, Curly Frizz Pudding, and the spritzes.

Type 3 - Would choose the mid weight products depending on the dryness. Either the Curl Styling Lotion or the Butter. Some type 3s are silky and others are coarse. If they need extra moisture, then they would use the SilkShake under this styling aid. And on days when they don’t wash and just need to perk up the curls, they’d use the Kick for Curls.
Type 4 - Would use the Happy Nappy Styles to style curls, with the SilkShake underneath for added moisture. Or the Butter Me Up if they are styling an afro style that they wish to comb through when dry. The SilkShake should always be a base for type 4, because it is drenching with moisture, but light enough for all hair types.
7. Many people worry about the ingredients in hair products. What makes your products so unique? What’s the difference between your products and other curly hair products now on the market?
I’ve carefully chosen the ingredients so as to avoid any ingredients that people are worried about. Even if there’s no evidence that they need worry. For instance, parabens and sulphates are a big worry but we still don’t have good evidence that they really cause harm, health-wise. But still I want people to feel fully confident that they are using a safe and well made product. So keeping that in mind while choosing ingredients based on their natural effectiveness, and knowing that with pro-longed use, they will actually increase the health of the hair, I’ve combined peace of mind with truly healthy ingredients.
A lot of other brands are what I call ‘bandage’ products. So your hair looks good as long as you use them daily. But then it feels dry if you don’t use it. Blended Beauty products ‘heal’ your hair so it looks great while using them, and if you run out, your hair is healthy and still looks great... (until you do something to dry it out!)
8. Do you only offer products for curly hair?
They are mostly for curly hair. The rinse out products can be used for any hair type. But coarse straight hair, also benefits from the lighter products. Coarse Asian hair is a good example.
9. Are your products all-natural?
The only ingredients in the products that are not natural or derived from natural ingredients are the scent and the preservative. The Blended Beauty products are at least 98% naturally derived.
10.You’ve been getting rave reviews about your products. They are helping so many people. What do you recommend individuals do if they are having a hard time with frizz and dryness?
A lot of the time frizz is a result of dryness, and dryness is a result of their hair regimen. I would recommend starting with a major moisturization process, and sticking to a product suited for their hair. So switching to the Blended Beauty shampoo and conditioner would stop the loss of moisture that is likely happening. Then using the SilkShake as a moisture base and choosing a styling product that suits their needs. In one sitting they would notice a dynamic difference.
11. Do you have any other tips you can offer about caring for curly hair?
I think a lot of people with textured hair don’t realize that they can wash and condition their hair as often as they wish. As long as you are not using a harsh shampoo. It is important to keep the scalp clean and healthy for it to grow healthy hair. I created the shampoo with this in mind, for curly care. It is the most gentle and conditioning shampoo you’ll find.
Also if you have dry hair, loading it up with grease is not the answer. You are actually making it drier. It blocks out moisture from the air and from any other source. Grease is a water repellent. Curly products need humectants. These are ingredients that are attracted to water and hold on to it. And BB products are loaded with them :o)
Thanks Stacey! It was a pleasure!
